Ye Shukun – “Fengcheng Restaurant” in North Point Nostalgic Dim Sum Side Dishes|Sir Ye Jing | Headline Daily

My friend Donald Duck Thomas recently had a nostalgic dinner at the “Fengcheng Restaurant” at No. 62 Java Road, North Point. The attendees included Principal Liu from “The Book of Wine”, Mr. Liang’s son Alex, JoJo and Peggy from the Liquor Chamber of Commerce. Bury me and Taizu, seven men and women eat nine big gui, talking and drinking, very happy. “Fengcheng Restaurant” is a well-known old restaurant in Hong Kong. It opened on Irving Street, Causeway Bay in 1954, and the North Point restaurant was established in 1978. It is a good place to eat nostalgic Cantonese cuisine. The owner, Tan Guojing, is 86 years old, known as Uncle Shi. He has been in the business for 70 years. He often patrols the restaurant in the lunch market.

Arrived at the restaurant at 12:00 noon, the lobby on the first floor was already crowded with people, most of the guests were neighbors nearby; the unexpected surprise was to meet an old friend in his 90s who hadn’t seen him for many years, and he was still walking like flying. It turns out that he drinks tea and eats here every day. , with so many loyal fans, no wonder the restaurant is always full.

The last time I ate here was 5 or 6 years ago. This time, the dim sum that I must try once more is the nostalgic soup dumpling: $39 for two large pieces, with fresh shrimp, lean meat, scallops, mushrooms and a little soup , is the most authentic traditional soup dumpling, add some Zhejiang vinegar to eat, there is a feeling of reuniting with old friends who have not seen for many years. Another nostalgic dim sum I like is fried rice rolls with shrimp. The rice rolls are fried until crispy and golden, and served with sesame or sweet sauce. It has a wonderful feeling of going back to the teahouses of the last century. Shrimp dumplings, siu mai, char siew buns, mangosteen beef and other dim sum are real ingredients, and the big plates are worth eating, which is most suitable for the taste of the neighborhood. The large order here sells for $39, the mid-point $30, and the small order $21. There are also special prices from 9 am to 11 am. Although it is not a star delicacy, it is definitely worth the money. Fried Fen Guo in Shangtang is also a famous product of the restaurant. The deliciously fried Fengcheng Fen Guo and the hot soup have a special taste.

Except for me and Taizuo who are wine tasting experts at the table, Shi Yan also had to drink two glasses. The daily drink was the 2007 Australian Sharktooth Chardonnay liquor brought by Donald Duck and the Italian Sicily 2019 brought by President Liu. Year-old Centenaria red wine, the red wine brewed from the century-old Norello Mascales grapes is of very good quality, and you can drink it down the glass. After eating dim sum, several side dishes will be served in turn. The first is the hometown mandarin fish roll. The chef removes the meat from the whole mandarin fish. The fish head and fish bones are fried golden and crispy. It looks beautiful. It is served with snow peas, straw mushrooms and parsley. Drinking a glass of Australian white wine, I feel full of happiness, while Tai Zuo loves the crispy fried fish bones, and eats it with a smile on his face.

Daliang fried fresh milk is a famous dish in Shunde, of course you must try it. I usually eat fried crab meat with fresh milk, this time it is a deluxe version of lobster fried fresh milk, served with Daliang pheasant roll, the fresh milk is fried smooth, the lobster meat is tender and sweet, and the delicious pheasant roll is added. Drink a cup of Italian centuries-old Red wine from old trees is a joy in life. Pheasant rolls have nothing to do with pheasant. In fact, they use egg powder to scoop up fatty pork and ribeye, steam it and then fry it. Men don’t like chicken. It’s the day we eat crispy fried chicken. It’s $300 a big one. The skin is crispy and the meat is smooth. It’s a fairytale match with red wine. Instant takeaway one for the son’s family. The grandchildren and granddaughters can eat two meals Think much tastier than a Christmas turkey! The green vegetables are garlic bean sprouts, which are fresh and beneficial, without any scum, so you can eat too much.

This is a happy nostalgic lunch. The old shop regarding my age does not sell exquisite and fashionable food, nor the environment decoration and atmosphere, but plain and delicious nostalgic snacks and side dishes. Although the seating is relatively cramped, it has the flavor of old restaurants, and the price of the neighbors is cheap, and it is a good place for the family to gather together, and for us retired uncles to reminisce regarding the past.
