The game
Heat battle at the start of the season in Bern. But although it’s over 30 degrees, it takes quite a while for the game to heat up. In the last five minutes of the first half, both teams missed several chances. A foretaste of what follows following the change of sides. Because then the game really picks up speed.
It’s the 52nd minute when the YB keeper von Ballmoos parries a Kamberi header on the line. The Zurich follow up, shortly followingwards the VAR reports. A long-range shot hits Sierro’s arm. The referee looks at the scene and logically decides on a penalty. Marchesano adjusts the leather and shoots over the box! The master is shocked, doesn’t show much following that. Instead, the scene is YB’s wake-up call. The Bernese are almost preparing for a show. With four goals in 23 minutes, they shoot the champions out of the stadium.

62. Minute, Christian Fassnacht, 1:0 – YB plays forward via the left. Garcia plays a soulful cross and Fassnacht pushes the leather over the line with his head.
77. Minute, Cedric Itten, 2:0 – YB debutant Itten is sent down the right side. There he first hits a hook, arranges the ball and takes care of it under the crossbar.
81 minutes, Fabian Rieder, 3-0 – A bad pass from Kamberi gives Kanga a chance for a cross. He uses it and finds Rieder in the middle, who scores the 3-0 with his head.
85. Minute, Wilfried Kanga, 4:0 – Kanga chests a high ball from Fassnacht. And hammers it into the mesh with a remarkable side puller.

YB continues to strengthen its already extremely strong squad! Shortly before kick-off, the new signing of ex-FCZ captain Kevin Rüegg will be official – the full-back will be loaned from Hellas Verona for a season. A look at Raphael Wicky’s bench also shows how broad (and prominent) YB is in the new season: there are names like Nsame, Ugrinic, Ngamaleu, Itten, Camara, Rrudhani, Benito, Jankewitz and Racioppi!

Here’s how to proceed
At the start of the new season there is an English week for both Zurich and YB. Because the first European games are coming up. FCZ have to go away once morest Karabakh in the second qualifying round of the Champions League on Tuesday (6 p.m.). And for YB, the first leg in the 2nd qualifying round of the Conference League is on Thursday (4 p.m.) away once morest Liepaja. In the championship, Zurich then welcomes Lucerne on Saturday (6 p.m.) and YB makes a guest appearance at Sion on Sunday (4.30 p.m.).
