Yassir, a technology start-up, promises more than 1,000 direct jobs in Senegal

Dakar, March 14 (APS) – Yassir, a tech start-up founded in 2017, aspires to create more than 1,000 direct jobs in Senegal, the first West African country to open its doors to it, promised, Monday, in Dakar, its founder and CEO, Nouridine Tayebi.

“We can exceed the bar of 1,000 direct jobs for the short term. We will also create indirect jobs,” he said at a press conference.

According to Nouridine Tayebi, direct jobs will go to local computer engineers, marketing and finance specialists, while indirect jobs will go to drivers, delivery people and other trades.

“We want to have hundreds of jobs in each of these areas,” he said, saying the tech start-up has created some 50,000 jobs in Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia.

”We want to duplicate this model in Senegal. Our mission is to recruit local technical talent, in all the countries where we operate,” added the founder and CEO of the start-up.

Yassir is an application “born in Africa, for Africans”, to which it will offer on-demand services and provide “access to a digital means of payment”, according to its leader.

”With several mobile apps on iOS and Android, the company provides on-demand services such as ride-hailing and delivery services, which generate revenue for more than 40,000 partners, including drivers, delivery people, merchants ( …) and wholesalers,” he explained.

Nouridine Tayebi, who studied at university in the United States, says he wants to ”create a 100% African model, which will aim to empower (…) local technical talent”.

“These talents often don’t have many opportunities in the region and unfortunately end up leaving for Europe to find work,” he said, claiming some five million users in Algeria, Morocco and in Tunisia.
