Yasir Arafat appointed high performance coach of Pakistan cricket team

Former Test all-rounder Yasir Arafat has been appointed as the high performance coach of the Pakistan cricket team.

A written statement issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said that Yasir Arafat will be part of the team management for the five-match T20 series against New Zealand scheduled in New Zealand from January 12 to 21, 2024.

41-year-old Yasir Arafat has played three Tests, 11 ODIs and 13 T20 matches for Pakistan.

He completed the ECB Level Four coaching course from Loughborough University, becoming the first Pakistani Test cricketer to do so.

He has also worked as a bowling coach with county teams such as Sussex and Surrey and the Australian Big Bash League franchise Perth Scorchers. Most recently he served as the bowling coach of the Hong Kong national team.

Apart from coaching, Yasir is also part of various T20 teams in league cricket around the world. Yasir will serve as the camp commandant of the five-day camp in Lahore from December 29 to January 2.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has also announced three development programs across the country, which include activation of sub-academies in seven cities, special training camps for national players and a financial assistance scheme for U-19 players.

Chairman PCB Management Committee Zaka Ashraf approved this initiative for the betterment of Pakistan Cricket after consultation with Director Pakistan Cricket Team Muhammad Hafeez.

PCB will collaborate with Defense Housing Authority (DHA). DHA will provide land for grounds in Islamabad, Quetta, Bahawalpur, Lahore and for cricket sub-academies in Peshawar.

Hanif Muhammad High Performance Center in Karachi and Inzamam-ul-Haq High Performance Center in Multan will also be activated as sub-academies with appropriate resources.

Special training camps will be organized for national and future players as part of the development programmes. Under-19 players will be provided with financial support along with skill training and thorough training as professionals.
