Yann Sommer’s time at Bayern Munich seems to be over following just six months. The Swiss needs game practice for his last big goal.

Munich – What’s next for FC Bayern Munich? Before the big Bundesliga final next weekend, the record champions are rumbling. The reason for this: probably the first season without a title since 2012. Behind the scenes, the chairs are already beginning to be moved – probably also with goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

Summer off at FC Bayern seems to be sealed: Farewell to the big dream?

The Swiss was signed by Borussia Mönchengladbach in the winter to replace the injured Manuel Neuer. The captain is currently working hard on his comeback and should train with the team once more in preparation. The end of summer? Pretty sure. Because the 34-year-old still has a big dream in his career: the EM 2024 in Germany.

Of course, the former Gladbacher needs match practice at the top level for this. But if Neuer is fit once more, Sommer is unlikely to get this and will lose out – his performance as number one in Munich was too manageable.

Many interested parties for Yann Sommer: As a Nübel replacement to Monaco?

Months ago, Manchester United was therefore mentioned as a possible buyer, but this track now seems to be cold. The Kicker now reports (issue of May 24) that there are enough other interested parties for summer. Villarreal, Valencia and Leicester are said to be in search of a keeper. The fact that the Swiss has hardly any prospects in Munich because of the Neuer return has “long been registered”.

Paradoxically, Alexander Nübel also plays a leading role. The Bayern keeper, who is currently on loan to AS Monaco, will leave the Principality. Accordingly, Monaco also needs a new keeper. Meanwhile, a Nübel return to the Isar seems impossible because the former Schalke player does not want to be number two behind Neuer. So the goalkeeping carousel will be spinning wildly this summer.

FC Bayern probably already had a quick summer sale in mind

The Bayern bosses naturally had the plan for a quick summer farewell in the back of their minds. In the end, he was signed for eight million euros – part of this sum might flow back into the Bayern coffers as a transfer fee if sold following this season. Sommer’s contract would be valid until 2025. In the winter, a long term was deliberately chosen in order to be able to call up a comparatively high price for a possible flash sale six months later in the summer. (mind)
