Yankees split honors against Angels

Josh Bell hit two homers and drove in three runs, Eduardo Rodriguez pitched 5 2/3 innings in his season debut and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Cleveland Guardians 5-3 to sweep their doubleheader on Sunday.

In the first game, Arizona got two home runs from Dominicans Ketel Marte and Gerlado Perdomo, as well as another from Corbin Carrol to win 7-3.

YORDAN ÁLVAREZ hit a blistering 117 mph home run, Yusei Kikuchi struck out eight in six innings and the Astros beat the Texas Rangers 6-4.

IAN HAPP and Michael Busch homered and five pitchers combined on a six-hitter to lift the Cubs to an 8-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins. Mexican Javier Assad worked the first four innings and Jorge Lopez (2-2) pitched two innings for the win.

LUIS GIL battled command issues in cool conditions but finished five scoreless innings on two hits; Aaron Judge reached base three times and had an RBI single as the improved Yankees beat the Los Angeles Angels 5-2 in the first of a doubleheader. The Los Angeles Angels won the second 8-2.

THE Oakland Athletics rallied to beat the Chicago White Sox 3-2, losing their 10th straight series a day after snapping an American League-record 21-game losing streak.— AP
