Yankees invite Willie Calhoun to their spring camp

The Yankees and outfielder Willie Calhoun have agreed to a non-guaranteed contract for 2023 that includes an invite to the big team’s spring camp, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand on Saturday.

Calhoun was a hot prospect for the Rangers when he arrived in Texas from the Dodgers as part of the Yu Darvish trade in January 2017. The ranger hit 21 home runs and had a .484 OPS in 82 games in 2019, but mightn’t keep up. that level of production. In 2022, he hit just .136/.283/.273 with one home run in 18 games for Texas before being designated for assignment and traded to the Giants for Steven Duggar in June.

At the Triple-A level at the San Francisco farm, Calhoun hit .291/.377/.453 with five home runs in 42 games, although in four games with the Giants’ big team he went 1-for-8 with a run produced.
