DETROIT (AP) — Aaron Judge hit his 44th home run to continue his major league lead, Gerrit Cole struck out eight in six innings and the New York Yankees beat the Detroit Tigers 3-0 on Friday night.

Cuban Oswald Peraza hit another home run in his first game of the season with the Yankees, who improved to 4-0 against Detroit.

New York, which began the day tied with the Baltimore Orioles atop the American League East, earned its third straight win.

One game after reaching 300 career homers — the fastest player to reach the milestone — Judge reached 301 in the eighth inning. His 431-foot blast gave the Yankees a 3-0 lead.

Cole (4-2) allowed four hits and walked two, both to rookie Jace Jung. Three relievers finished the job for New York, including Clay Holmes, who pitched the ninth for his 26th save.

For the Yankees, Venezuelans Gleyber Torres went 2-for-4 with one run scored, Peraza went 1-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI. Dominican Juan Soto went 0-for-3. Mexican Alex Verdugo went 0-for-3 with one RBI.
