Yamazaki Bread Co., the largest bakery in the industry, announced that it will acquire the packaged bread business from Kobeya, which was engaged in the manufacture and sale of bread and had sluggish business performance.
The declining population and soaring raw material prices have driven the restructuring of the bread industry.
According to the announcement, Yamazaki Baking will acquire the packaged bread business sold at supermarkets and the delicatessen food business such as side dishes from “Kobeya”, which is headquartered in Osaka and handles bread manufacturing and restaurants. On the 26th, the two companies signed a contract.
Kobeya’s packaged bread business is the company’s main business, and the company plans to take over assets such as the factory and the head office building.
In the bread industry, in addition to the declining population, the business environment is becoming increasingly severe due to soaring prices of raw materials such as wheat and edible oil, which has supported the restructuring of the industry.
Yamazaki Baking aims to improve the efficiency of its production system in the Kansai region and strengthen its sales force through this acquisition.
On the other hand, Kobeya’s performance has been sluggish due to the impact of the corona disaster, but in the future it will concentrate management resources on the restaurant business.
The acquisition is scheduled to be completed at the end of February next year, and the Kobeya brand will be maintained for the time being following the acquisition.
