A futuristic motorcycle, without handlebars, powered by artificial intelligence to recognize its owner, and which modifies its balancing point on its own for safer and smoother driving, this is what Yamaha is offering with its Motoroid 2 concept.

Yamaha has just revisited one of its strangest motorcycle concepts. This second version of his futuristic project Motoroid explores what “man-machine” interfaces might be in the future. In the future, motorcycles are obviously electric. Its motor is located in the hub of the rear wheel. At this location, the suspension arm is attached to another motorized system placed under the seat. It allows this suspension and the wheel to be tilted to the sides.

In fact, when turning, rather than pushing on the handlebars to counter the gyroscopic effect, its rear end allows it to take the right angle, without forcing to maintain a trajectory in complete safety. Likewise, the battery pod can swing in such a way as to dynamically change the balance of the motorcycle for greater stability. In other words, the balance point adapts to the circumstances.

Handles instead of handlebars

At the front, the first thing that strikes you is the absence of a real handlebar. These are two vertical handles which have no mechanical connection with the front wheel. They seem to act like the small broomsticks of an Airbus which are not physically connected to the moving elements of the wings. With this set, the Motoroid 2 does not fall, even without a driver. It can self-balance and roll on its own. Better yet, it is equipped with an AI-powered facial recognition camera. With gesture control, its owner can ask it to follow him. It then becomes the robotic equivalent of a real pet. So, futuristic delirium or real innovation? The future will tell us, but in the meantime this motorcycle will be exhibited within the month at Events Japan Mobility Show 2023.
