Time limit expired! New fuss about Yakin’s coaching diploma
Because the written confirmation from Turkey is still missing and Hakan Yakin’s deadline expires today, Bigi Meier (72) is stepping in as a coach at FC Schaffhausen.
Hakan Yakin told Blick on July 22 that he had the assurance that he had been accepted in Turkey for the Uefa Pro Diploma course. “The Swiss Football Association has also given its okay. All that’s still missing is the formal letter from Turkey.”
In order to be able to train a Challenge League team like Schaffhausen, you need a Uefa Pro license or admission to a Uefa Pro course in Switzerland or abroad.
Yakin was allowed to stand on the sidelines of FC Schaffhausen for the first four games with a special permit from the SFV, but this expires today. And the letter from Turkey is still a long time coming!
“The reason for this is that the Turkish association has not yet evaluated all participants in the Uefa Pro course, which should start this summer,” says Schaffhausen President Roland Klein on Blick.
The club continues to assume that the squad will arrive in the next few days. But until that happens, FC Schaffhausen needs a coach with valid papers. One thing is certain: the club must hire a new coach, as not a single FC Schaffhausen employee can show a Uefa Pro diploma.
So who will be on the bench alongside Yakin at Lausanne Ouchy on Saturday?
Bigi Meier helped shape the great GC era
According to Blick information, this will be André “Bigi” Meier. The 72-year-old from Lucerne played as a defensive midfielder and libero for Lucerne and GC in the 1970s and 1980s. Between 1970 and 1984 he celebrated five championship titles and one cup win with the Hoppers. In 1986 he started his coaching career at SC Zug. From 2001 to 2013 he was the assistant coach of Challandes, Tami and Schürmann at the Swiss U21 national team.
Now Meier will support Yakin on the bench at FC Schaffhausen. At least until he has the written confirmation from Turkey and thus meets the requirements of the association.
