Sri Lanka beat Australia in third Twenty20 International Sri Lanka, who lost the first two matches of the series, went into the third match looking for a consolation victory. Captain Dasun Shanaka was the hero of Sri Lanka. He scored 54 off just 25 balls to lead Sri Lanka to victory.
Chasing a target of 177, the hosts were 108/6 at one stage. However, Shanaka and Chamika Karunaratne’s 69 for the seventh wicket helped Sri Lanka to a convincing victory. Sri Lanka, who needed 59 off the last 18 balls, went on to win with one ball to spare.
The Sri Lankan captain has scored over 50 runs in the last three overs. With this, Shanaka became the first player to score more than 50 runs in death overs in the International T20 Chase. He hit five fours and four sixes in his 54-run innings.
Kane Richardson and Jay Richardson, who gave up over 40 runs, made things easier for Sri Lanka. Josh Heiselwood, who had bowled well till then, conceded 19 runs in the last over.
With 19 runs to go in the final over bowled by Hazelwood, the skipper hit two fours and a six with one ball remaining to level the score. Heiselwood then bowled a wide and gave Sri Lanka the victory.
Earlier, Australia won the toss and elected to bat.
However, the Sri Lankans returned to bat without much hope. But Captain Shanaka was the hero of the team in front of the fat fans.
