[Y이슈] Seungri is about to be released… How are the members of ‘Jung Joon-young’s group chat room’ now?

Seungri, the man responsible for ‘Burning Sun Gate’, is released from prison in two days. Seungri, who is currently imprisoned in Yeoju Prison, is scheduled to be released on the morning of the 11th.

On February 27, 2019, Seungri was investigated and booked as a suspect at Gangnam Police Station in Seoul on charges of arranging prostitution for investors in Taiwan, Japan, and Hong Kong to attract business investment.

Afterwards, he was charged with buying sex, violating the Food Sanitation Act for reporting and operating an entertainment bar as a general restaurant, embezzlement of Yuri Holdings funds for employee attorney fees, and embezzlement of club Burning Sun funds. A total of 9 charges were added, including habitual gambling of regarding 2.2 billion won, violation of the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act, and mobilizing a gangster to threaten a customer following a fight with a customer while drinking alcohol, causing a social stir.

Seungri, who was handed over to trial without detention on January 30, 2020, enlisted in March 2020 and was tried in a military court for both the first and second trials. He was scheduled to be discharged on September 16 of that year, but following being detained in court in the first trial, he was held in a military prison pending confinement room as a sergeant.

Later, in May of last year, he was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in an appeal trial and was automatically discharged and transferred to a civilian prison near the military prison. Seungri, who was found guilty of all charges, left Big Bang in disgrace and was effectively kicked out of the entertainment industry.

With Seungri two days away from prison, attention is also focused on Choi Jong-hun and Jung Joon-young, who were involved in the ‘Burning Sun Gate’ along with Seungri. The three are members of the so-called ‘Jung Joon-young group chat room’, and once set up a bar in Gangnam, Seoul and ran it together, showing off their close relationship.

First, in January and March 2016, Choi Jong-hoon was accused of group sexually assaulting and illegally filming a drunken woman along with Jung Joon-young, former Burning Sun MD Mr. Kim, office worker Mr. Kwon, and former employee of an entertainment agency Mr. Heo. Arrested in 2019. After that, he was sentenced to 5 years in prison in the first trial, but following an appeal and an appeal, the prison sentence was reduced to 2 years and 6 months. It was because of the agreement with the victim.

However, despite the reduced sentence, Choi Jong-hun filed an appeal once more. As the appeal was not accepted, the sentence of 2 years and 6 months was confirmed, and he was released on November 8 last year. After he was released from prison, his religious life was reported.

Jung Joon-young was sentenced to six years in prison for the same charges. He was detained on March 21, 2019, and is expected to be released on October 1, 2025.

As Seungri is regarding to be released from prison, attention is also focused on whether he will be able to resume his entertainment activities. However, an industry insider said to YTN Star, “It seems that the response will be cold no matter how hard we try to return, as it is close to being completely kicked out in Korea.” However, an official added, “Maybe it will be possible to work in other Asian countries that are generous to foreigners.”
