In the 1980s, while Pelé was enjoying his fame as ‘the best soccer player of all time’, he met Xuxa, a 17-year-old singer who fell hopelessly in love with him.
The crush occurred when both were participating in a photo session for the Brazilian magazine “Manchete”. Xuxa started out as a model and later became the most popular children’s entertainer in her country (Brazil). As she recounted in her autobiographical book, Pelé was the first love of her life.
THE MESSAGE OF XUXA
Xuxa, Brazilian singer, television presenter, actress and model, went to social networks and sent a message of affection to the children and current wife of the former player.
“Marcia, Kelly, Edinho, Jennifer, Joshua, Celeste and others (children of the heart), grandchildren, nephews, Lucia… and all those who have been on Dico’s side (as Xuxa called Pelé), my affectionate hug and May the pain of loss turn into good memories to be less heavy…” Xuxa wrote in her Instagram post, which was originally written in Portuguese.
“Márcia, may God give you the return you need,” added the renowned singer with whom Pelé had a love affair when she was only 17 years old and he was 40, which was a scandal at the time due to the difference in age, but especially all because she was underage.
The relationship between Xuxa and Pelé ended abruptly following five years and although both had struggled to prove that they were a good couple, they ended up speaking ill of each other.
