ABB Robótica partners with XtalPi to build automated laboratories with artificial intelligence
ABB Robótica and XtalPi have entered into a strategic partnership to produce a series of automated laboratory workstations in China. The new automated laboratories will increase the productivity of R&D processes in biopharmaceuticals, chemical and chemical engineering, and new energy materials.

Automated laboratory workstations can be customized to meet specific requirements, using different modules to complete various steps of the experiment. ABB’s GoFa cobots take on manual, repetitive tasks and work non-stop, accelerating the pace of experiments. The large volumes of high-quality data generated will help increase the efficiency of the Design-Make-Test-Analyze research cycle and provide a solid foundation for driving AI for science.
GoFa cobots are used by XtalPi Intelligent Automation to develop preparation workstations, dilution and filtration workstations, reaction workstations, UPLC test workstations, glovebox workstations, sample depots and guided vehicles automatically (AGV) to make laboratory research and development faster and more efficient.
Each automated workstation can perform hundreds of different experiments, with ABB’s GoFa cobots operating in a variety of challenging environments, including glove boxes – without humidity or oxygen – while carrying out complex tasks such as opening lids and placing equipment. laboratory, liquid handling, sample addition, filtration, dilution, magnetic stirring, rapid sampling and UPLC testing, with minimal supervision required.
AMRs equipped with GoFa cobots automatically transfer samples between workstations, increasing efficiency and further reducing costs.
Equipped with a GoFa cobot and four rotating columns, the automated sample warehouses offer compact and efficient storage and retrieval for laboratory reagents, making the process more efficient and fully traceable.
