Jakarta – Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Xpeng has officially entered the Indonesian market,partnering with Erajaya Active lifestyle (Eral). The company plans to assemble its X9 and G6 models locally at a PT Handal indonesia Motor (HIM) factory in Purwakarta, West Java.
Local Assembly Plans and Capacity
during the Xpeng Indonesia launch event on Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, Erajaya Active Lifestyle CEO Djohan Sutanto confirmed the assembly plans: “That’s right (assembled at the Purwakarta Reliable Factory).” He added, “(but for production capacity) we are honest not yet there (the conversation). Now we are submitting to the government,” indicating that initial production volumes are still under consideration.
Xpeng’s Initial Models: X9 and G6
xpeng is introducing two models to Indonesia: the X9 and the G6.

The CEO of the Automotive Innovation Era, Iki Wibowo, announced that the Xpeng vehicles are expected to be available for order starting in May 2025.The initial sales efforts will concentrate on the Greater Jakarta area, aiming to establish a strong foothold in the region.
“Surely we will build a network 3s. We will also be present at the mall through the Xperience Center. The plan is that we will build 6 networks in Jabodetabek,” Wibowo said, outlining the company’s plan to create 6 networks to support sales and service in the Greater Jakarta area.

welcome to Indonesia, Xpeng! Let’s talk about your local production plans. Can you share more about the chosen factory and why Indonesia was an attractive market for local assembly?
Maya Sung: “Thank you for having me. For our local assembly, we’ve partnered with PT Handal Indonesia Motor (HIM) at their Purwakarta facility in West Java. Indonesia offers a strategic location and a growing demand for electric vehicles. The government’s supportive policies, like the roadmap for transitioning to electric mobility, also played a significant role in our decision.”
You’re initially targeting the production of right-hand drive versions of the X9 and G6. Why were these models chosen for the Indonesian market?
Maya Sung: “The X9 and G6 were selected based on their versatility and relevance to Indonesian drivers. The X9, with its spacious interior and advanced autonomous driving tech, caters to both family and business use. Meanwhile, the G6’s high performance, range, and rapid charging capabilities make it an excellent choice for urban driving. Plus, they’re both quite competitive in terms of pricing for the segment.”
When can we expect the first Xpeng vehicles rolling off the line in Purwakarta? What’s the initial production capacity like?
Maya Sung: “We anticipate starting local production in the second half of 2025. Production capacities are still in negotiations with the relevant authorities, but we’re confident in our ability to efficiently ramp up to meet demand.”

Maya Sung: “We’re planning a robust support network, including 3S (Sales, Service, Spare Parts) centers and Xperience Centers in malls to showcase our vehicles and technology. our focus is on prioritizing customer experience and ensuring top-notch service excellence.”
With such a vast market, what strategies does Xpeng have to make its vehicles accessible to more Indonesians?
Maya Sung: “Affordability is indeed key. We’ll continuously innovate to improve our vehicles’ technology and efficiency, driving down costs. Plus, the local assembly will help make our vehicles more accessible by reducing import duties and transportation costs.”
