The Chinese company Xiaomi has published several pictures of the interior of its first electric car SU7, as well as a video of a winter test drive of the car in winter conditions. Judging by the published images, there are an unusually large number of buttons on the steering wheel, dashboard and other places in the SU7 interior.
Although the cost and timing of the start of deliveries of the Xiaomi electric car remain unknown, more and more information regarding it is becoming available. Previously, the company’s management spoke of its intention to begin deliveries in the first half of 2024, so we can assume that details regarding the characteristics and price of the SU7 will soon become known.
The electric car will probably appear at the Beijing Auto Show, which will be held in April. As for the cost, it is assumed that the price of SU7 will be in the range of 300 thousand yuan ($42 thousand).
Returning to the interior of the SU7, it should be noted that the main surprise was the presence of many buttons. This is surprising since Xiaomi is a technology company and might very well reduce the number of buttons to a minimum. The basis of the interior concept was a beautiful, intuitive design. All important elements are located close to the driver and front passenger.
The arched instrument panel combines a head-up display with a fairly large touch screen and air outlets. According to the developers, this shape of the dashboard not only physically expands the volume, but also gives a psychological feeling of being in a freer space. The car control interface and buttons are located intuitively for the driver and front seat passenger.
On the center console there is a car start button, as well as four switches for controlling the temperature in the cabin, fan speed, suspension and active spoiler. There are also buttons on the steering wheel and the levers behind it, and not only the instrument panel, but also the head-up display can be used to inform you regarding driving speed and other parameters.
The company is confident that physical buttons provide the most natural way for a person to interact with a car. Interestingly, with the help of a special docking station, you can add even more buttons by placing them under the touch screen.
It’s no secret that Xiaomi strives to ensure that the company’s electric vehicles provide high efficiency and range even in winter conditions. A common problem with electric vehicles is that range decreases significantly at low temperatures. To solve this problem in SU7, the developers used a special heat pump. In the published video, you can see a pair of SU7 sedans being tested on a snow-covered test site at a temperature of -33 ºC.
