In recent years, several incidents of cell phones catching fire or exploding have been reported by users around the world.
The latest involves a newly acquired Redmi Note 12 Pro in the city of Haryana, India. The device would have caught fire in the user’s pocket, but luckily no one was injured.
Naveen Dahiya acquired the Redmi Note 12 Pro in February 2023. On April 11th, while working, the device in his shirt pocket started to overheat and emit smoke. Upon checking it, he realized it was on fire.
Even though the cell phone was not connected to the charger, it was consumed by the flames, being completely destroyed. Fortunately, Dahiya acted quickly and removed the device from her pocket, placing it on the ground where no one might get hurt.
He contacted Redmi’s customer service but was disappointed by the way he was treated. Dahiya reinforces that if he does not receive adequate care, he will sue the Chinese manufacturer.
At the moment, the reason for the cell phone exploding is unknown. As much as cell phones are fundamental today, they can be dangerous if they have serious component defects, causing fires and even explosions.
Recently, an eight-year-old girl died in India following a Redmi Note 5 Pro exploded. According to reports, Thrissur, Kerala was using the device to watch videos or play games at the time of the accident.
She suffered burns on her face and fractures on her right hand, not resisting serious injuries. Forensics confirmed that the device was not charging at the time of the explosion. Redmi has spoken out and said it will investigate the case.
