Xiaomi Pad 6: good screen and performance, but the price is not Shipping According… | Hands-on video

2023-10-18 16:45:00

Launched globally in July this year, the Xiaomi Pad 6’s main attributes include its good construction, cleaner design and Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset.

It still comes out of the box with Android 13 and a modified version of MIUI to deliver more productivity, but is it worth buying this Xiaomi tablet in times of mandatory taxation in Remessa Conformo?

That’s what we’re going to answer in this quick hands-on.

Design

The Xiaomi Pad 6 is a tablet that follows the category’s design standard and features aluminum construction. This ends up giving the impression of a premium device, something that is positive for a tablet in its price range.

At the rear, it has a square camera module with a single sensor and LED flash, as well as pins for connecting accessories. At the bottom, there is a USB-C port, output for two speakers and at the top we have two more audio outputs, a microphone and a button.

On the front, the Xiaomi Pad 6 features Gorilla Glass 3 to protect this panel with thicker edges. Additionally, there is also the front camera that can be used when the tablet is horizontal.

Unfortunately, the Xiaomi Pad 6 does not have a fingerprint reader and you can only authenticate via facial recognition or with a password in the software.

Below the volume buttons, you will find an area on the Xiaomi Pad 6 used to connect and recharge the Stylus pen. Everything is done magnetically.

But, the second generation Xiaomi Smart Pen does not come in the package and you will have to buy it separately. Still, this Xiaomi pen is cheap, has a battery life of up to 150 hours and great precision.

It works great for drawing and even navigating the interface. Finally, at least Xiaomi sends the 33-watt charger in the Pad 6 box, something that is very positive in the current state of the electronics market.

Screen and hardware

The Xiaomi Pad 6 has an 11-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 2,880 by 1,800 pixels and support for a 144 Hz refresh rate. The maximum brightness of 550 nits helps a lot in everyday life and the color calibration is very well adjusted.

The tablet also has four speakers with Dolby Atmos certification and the sound is loud and full-bodied. Inside the Xiaomi Pad 6 we have the Snapdragon 870 chipset.

In the version we tested, we have 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. Generally speaking, this configuration is more than enough to guarantee good performance in browsing, document editing and multimedia consumption.

You may start to encounter bottlenecks on this older platform when playing some heavier titles from the Play Store.

In terms of connectivity, the Xiaomi Pad 6 has a very complete combo with dual-band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and USB-C 3.2 generation 1. However, there is no support for video output.

The Xiaomi Pad 6 battery has a capacity of 8,840 mAh and supports 33 Watt fast charging. That’s already enough for you to spend a whole day away from the socket. The charger can take around 1 hour and 40 minutes to deliver 100% battery to the tablet.

Xiaomi Pad 6

Screen: 11-inch LCD with 2,880 x 1,800 resolution; Corning Gorilla Glass 3; 144 Hz refresh rate; Platform: Qualcomm Snapdragon 870; GPU: Adreno 650; RAM: 6/8GB; Storage: 128/256GB (UFS 3.1); Bluetooth 5.2; Rear camera: 13MP with f/2.2 aperture; Front camera: 8MP with f/2.0 aperture; Battery: 8,840mAh; 33W charging; Operating System: MIUI 14 (Android 13); Weight: 490 g.

Software

The Xiaomi Pad 6 was launched with Android 13 running under the MIUI 14 interface adapted for larger tablet displays.

As we are talking regarding the MIUI that everyone already knows, the software is quite personalized and comes with a series of pre-installed applications and proprietary solutions from the manufacturer.

You can use two applications at the same time on the display, for example. The interface performance is also well adjusted and there are no stutters or major problems here.

Perhaps what this Xiaomi Pad 6 is missing is a desktop mode. It would be essential for anyone looking for productivity, as all you had to do was connect the tablet to the keyboard case and a wireless mouse to access a type of ChromeOS.

Therefore, Xiaomi is expected to add this functionality in the next generations. Even more so now that the company has confirmed that HyperOS is coming to replace MIUI.

Cmeras

Here on the Xiaomi Pad 6, although the module appears to have more than one sensor, in fact we only have the 13 megapixel main camera with autofocus and the ability to record videos in up to 4K at 30 fps.

Photos captured with this sensor are good and acceptable, but of course not exceptional. The lack of resolution compromises the detection of details, with colors tending to washed out tones in some scenarios.

The 8 megapixel front camera is there for video calls or the occasional selfie and it works very well.

In other words, the Xiaomi Pad 6 has ok performance for its cameras within the tablet category.

First impressions

Officially launched in Europe and other markets, the Xiaomi Pad 6 is not sold in Brazil, but can be purchased by Brazilian consumers via import at Chinese retailers.

The average price for the version with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage is around R$2,000 outside of promotion. This is without considering the mandatory taxation of Remessa Conformo, which can make the price reach a hefty R$4,000.

In this scenario, despite the Xiaomi Pad 6 being a good tablet, having good processing power, loud sound for multimedia consumption and even well-adjusted software, the purchase becomes somewhat unfeasible.

Therefore, perhaps the best option is to buy national or locally sold tablets, including a Galaxy Tab or even an iPad.

Anyway, the Xiaomi Pad 6 is a great tablet and has no competitors if it really cost something close to R$2,000, but as the import scenario has changed, unfortunately the cost goes up a lot and the final price you pay for it is difficult to accept .
