Xiaomi Mix Flip Review – Andrea Galeazzi

Xiaomi’s compact foldable arrives in Italy and comes with many interesting features. Ergonomic design, a good camera, excellent battery life and above all a large and really usable external display! Lots of pros but also some downsides… here’s the full review of the Mix Flip!

Packaging and contents

A packaging more unique than rare, a package that includes the power supply in addition to the USB cable 67W let’s cover.

Materiali design e touch-and-feel

The construction is in glass e aluminum per 190 grams in weight and 7.6 mm thick, which when closed becomes 16. Yes, like every flip it is practical and comfortable to use, after all that is precisely the aim of these compact foldables and the flat edges help even more in improving ergonomics (to be used open, for the opening action itself, the convex ones are more comfortable).

L’always-on is present, with a very large and very comfortable external display to use both for on-the-fly actions and even a little more. As for connectivity we find 5G, WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, GPS, NFC, Google Pay, Android Auto and the USB-C connector.

Display

Il display interno, the foldable one, is a AMOLED and 6,86″ with resolution 2912 x 1224, refresh rate a 120Hz and brightness that reaches up to 3.000 nits while that external reaches i 4,01″ also incorporating the two cameras and containing within it an area with a 16:9 format which allows you to use apps comfortably even with the smartphone closed, the resolution is equal to 1224 x 2912, the refresh rate at 120Hz and the peak brightness also in this case reaches 3,000 nits.

Processor and memory

Il processor it is Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 at 4nm flanked by 12/16GB Of RAM e 256/512GB/1TB Of internal memory UFS 4.0.

Drums

The drums it’s one 4.780mAh with wired fast charging a 67W. A powerful processor, a not huge battery and yet… excellent autonomy! I arrived at the end of the day with still 30-35% remaining on average. Truly an excellent result.

Software and ecosystem

Il software And Android 14, with updated patches to July, so not very well, and the right amount of artificial intelligence that we now expect from an Android. As usual though Xiaomi launches smartphones that still need to be perfected a bit and some bugs happen every now and then or even some shortcomings. For example, from the settings when we go to choose the apps that we want to find on the external display there are some that do not appear but that could, because then in fact they appear among those used recently and work well. Details that are missing and that at the price of this Mix Flip should be fixed before launch.

Telephone department

Il telephone department It enjoys good reception and also good audio quality but above all it is the first flip that allows you to answer and speak even when closed, which is interesting and convenient.

Photos and videos

Il rooms section is made up of:

  • camera principal and 50MP with f/1.7 aperture and optical stabilization,
  • 2X telephoto lens and 50MP with f/2.0 aperture and 9cm focus,
  • camera interna and 32MP with f/2.0 aperture.

A good camera section, the wide-angle lens is missing, this is true but the main one takes out excellent shots, you can find them below, and the videos aren’t bad either.

Audio

L’audio is of quality, full, stereo and with well-balanced bass between the two speakers. Obviously no headphone jack input but promoted.

App e gaming

The performance in 2024 they are no longer an interesting topic, all smartphones are fine and it has a top of the range CPU, therefore always fluid and fast, nothing to say.

Final judgement

A flip that I liked, with an excellent external screen, well managed, a good camera, something to improve on the software side, this is true but the list price is perhaps its biggest limit. In fact, it arrives in version 12/512GB a 1.299 euro. An important figure, exaggerated given the price now reached by the competition, see Z Flip6 and Razr 50 Ultra. We want the Xiaomi of the past back, that of the quality/price ratio!
