Xiaomi is on edge. Its fierce rival is releasing a super-cheap smartphone with a capacious battery, an excess of memory and a screen larger than the iPhone 15 Pro Max

Realme is set to launch the entry-level Note 60 in the upcoming days. While Xiaomi dominates this segment, the Note 60 has the potential to become a strong competitor to its budget smartphones. Priced at approximately $100, it features a 5,000 mAh battery, a 6.74-inch display, and 6/128 GB of storage.

Request success

The well-known smartphone brand Realme in Russia continues to evolve its new Note line, which aims to challenge the legendary Xiaomi Redmi Note. According to the GizmoChina portal, the company is preparing to unveil the Realme Note 60 model, which will be priced around $100 (RUB 9,160 at the Central Bank exchange rate on August 26, 2024).

For this price, the smartphone will provide buyers with a large display and a substantial battery, as well as support for modern software – Android 14, released in 2023. Not all flagship devices have been updated to this version yet, but it will be readily available out of the box in this budget smartphone.

The Realme Note 60 will first be available in stores in Indonesia, but Realme Note devices are also sold in Russia, so there is a high likelihood of seeing the Note 60 in local retail shops. In Indonesia, the starting price is $90 (8,245 rubles) for the version with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, while the 6/128 GB version is priced at $103 (9,440 rubles). Additionally, there will be a premium version with 256 GB of RAM and 8 GB of ROM, but its price is yet to be announced.

The smartphone is encased in plastic

Sales of the Realme Note 60 in Indonesia are set to commence in the next few days. The plastic casing is available in two color options – dark gray and blue.

Larger than iPhone 15 Pro Max

A notable feature of the Realme Note 60 is its 6.74-inch screen, which surpasses the 6.7-inch display of the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, due to the device’s price, it does not come with an OLED panel; instead, it features an IPS display with a resolution of 1600×720 pixels or HD+.

The new Note 60 cannot be classified as compact

According to GizmoChina, the smartphone’s display has a peak brightness of 560 nits, occupies around 86% of the front panel area, boasts a pixel density of 260 ppi, and has an aspect ratio of 20:9, with a refresh rate of up to 90 Hz.

The smartphone display is designed with a cutout similar to the iPhone X’s “notch,” which serves as a local version of the Dynamic Island feature from the iPhone 15. Additional information notifications are displayed within this portion of the screen.

Both the “notch” and Dynamic Island in one

Hence, Realme has equipped potential buyers with a smartphone that features a large display, albeit with a low resolution. The battery is also modest – the Note 60 is equipped with a 5000 mAh battery, which has become the industry standard by 2024. However, it lacks fast charging capabilities.

The maximum charging support offered by the Note 60 is limited to 10 watts, a feature that peaked in relevance around the mid-2010s. Judging by the images, the charging port is USB-C, not microUSB, where 10 W was the maximum. Thus, it can be preliminarily concluded that this limitation is likely artificial.

Processor and cameras

The Realme Note 60 is powered by the Unisoc T612 processor, which celebrated its second anniversary in May 2024. This chip is commonly found in budget smartphones (for instance, it can be seen in the Realme Note 50), manufactured using a 12 nm process and achieving 246 thousand points in AnTuTu 10 and 1500 points in multi-core performance in Geekbench 6. It features a single-core Mali-G57 MP1 graphics unit and eight processing cores: two Cortex-A75 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at the same frequency.

The Realme Note 60 operates on 4G networks, lacking 5G support. It features a slot for microSD cards and the capability to virtually expand RAM up to 24 GB using built-in storage.

The specifications of the additional camera module are currently unknown

The phone is rumored to house a 32-megapixel main camera with an f/1.8 aperture, a wide-angle lens, an LED flash, and Full HD video recording at 30 frames per second. Promotional images clearly show an additional camera module, but details about its specifications remain undisclosed. The front camera captures images at a resolution of 5 MP.

The new Realme Note 60 includes IP64 splash and dust resistance, runs Realme UI 5.0 on top of Android 14, and lacks NFC, while offering Wi-Fi 802.11ac in both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, Bluetooth 5.0 with A2DP and LE profiles, and GPS and GLONASS receivers. There is a dedicated jack for wired headphones. The dimensions of the Note 60 are 167x77x7.8 mm, and it weighs 187 grams.

Realme is preparing to launch the entry-level Note 60 in the coming days, posing a serious competitive threat to Xiaomi in the budget smartphone segment. With a price tag around $100, this smartphone promises a robust 5,000 mAh battery, an expansive 6.74-inch screen, and ample 6/128 GB storage.

Overview of Realme Note 60

The popular smartphone brand Realme continues to enhance its Note line to rival the established Xiaomi Redmi Note. The upcoming Realme Note 60 model is expected to retail around $100 (RUB 9,160 at the central bank exchange rate as of August 26, 2024).

This price point offers buyers a large display, a significant battery capacity, and access to the latest operating system, Android 14, out of the box. Notably, many flagship models haven’t yet received this update, making this budget smartphone appealing for tech enthusiasts.

The Realme Note 60 will debut in Indonesia, where it is initially priced at $90 (RUB 8,245) for the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage variant, and $103 (RUB 9,440) for the 6GB/128GB version. A more powerful variant with 256GB storage and 8GB RAM is also expected, though its pricing details remain undisclosed.

The Realme Note 60 flaunts a plastic build available in two color options: dark gray and blue. The smartphone houses a large 6.74-inch display, surpassing the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s 6.7-inch size. However, the display is IPS LCD with a resolution of 1600×720 pixels (HD+), which is lower than many competitors.

Key display features include:

  • Peak brightness of 560 nits
  • Screen-to-body ratio of approximately 86%
  • Pixel density of 260 ppi
  • Refresh rate of up to 90 Hz

Additionally, the screen features a cutout similar to the iPhone X “notch,” allowing for notifications and quick access to features, akin to the iPhone’s Dynamic Island.

Performance

The smartphone is powered by the Unisoc T612 processor, a common choice for mid-range devices. This chip, manufactured on a 12 nm process, boasts:

  • Quad-core performance with 2 Cortex-A75 cores at 1.8 GHz
  • Six Cortex-A55 cores at the same clock speed
  • Graphics handled by the Mali-G57 MP1

The performance results are reflected in its AnTuTu benchmark score of around 246,000 and 1,500 points in multi-core Geekbench 6 tests.

Battery Life

The Realme Note 60 comes equipped with a substantial 5,000 mAh battery, a standard size in 2024. However, it supports only 10W charging, potentially limiting its fast-charging capabilities. Using a USB-C port, the Note 60 offers a modern connection, but its charging speeds may not satisfy power users.

Camera System

The camera setup includes a 32-megapixel main camera with an f/1.8 aperture, a wide-angle lens, LED flash, and Full HD video recording capabilities at 30 fps. The front-facing camera captures images at 5 MP.

While promotional images indicate an additional camera module, its specifications remain under wraps.

The Realme Note 60 operates on Realme UI 5.0 atop Android 14 and includes features like:

  • IP64 splash and dust resistance
  • Support for microSD cards
  • 4G network compatibility (No 5G support)
  • Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and GLONASS, Wi-Fi 802.11ac
