Chinese manufacturers remain the pioneers in the ultra-fast charging of smartphones. Last year the group really/Oppo announced the arrival of a power of 200W. The objective was to overtake its main competitor Xiaomi. The two giants are said to be currently testing this technology.
Ultra-fast 200W charging at Xiaomi
The charging power of 200W would be in the experimental phase on the side of Xiaomi and Oppo. These two manufacturers already have the technology necessary to enable such a feat.
Recently, Xiaomi had made a small demonstration regarding a new charger. The latter broke two new records in the middle. First of all, the 200W wired charging allowed a 4000mAh battery to fully fill in just 8 minutes. It took 44 seconds to go from 0% to 10%, and 3 minutes to reach 50%.
The second record concerns wireless charging at 120W. A new step taken for the manufacturer and in the world of mobile telephony. In the process, Xiaomi deploys its third homemade chip: the Surge P1. This enables the “120W Single-cell” charging technology to be implemented.
To achieve this result, it took 18 months of research and development. Moreover, creating a chip that can withstand the 120W load in single-cell is more difficult than the two-cell solution (dual-cell).
Oppo’s advances
Oppo had planned to deploy a charging power of 125W to surpass the 120W of Xiaomi (Xiaomi 11 T Pro). The brand paved the way by showcasing a variety of technologies used to enable such charging speeds. For example, Oppo had already made available internal dual-cell batteries, battery safety detection chips, or even Smart Charging Technology.
Compared to its rival, Oppo seems to be a bit behind in development. However, we are forced to observe the technological advances of Chinese firms in this sector. Indeed, other brands like Samsung Where Apple are far behind with their loads at 25W and 20W.
By the way, we already knew that Xiaomi was working on the 200W technique. Rumors even spoke of its presence on the recent Xiaomi 12. It is therefore very likely to see this innovation come out this year, perhaps on the T Pro version of the Xiaomi 12.
The super-fast charging monopoly isn’t exclusive to Xiaomi and Oppo, however. Indeed, the iQOO 9 supports charging at 120W, and the Red Magic gaming smartphone is compatible with a power of 165W.
