Xiaomi’s answer to the top smartphones from Apple, Samsung and Co is called Xiaomi 14 Ultra. The price of just under 1500 euros suggests a top device. The OÖN tested whether the Chinese manufacturer lived up to this expectation.
- Design: First of all, the back of the smartphone attracts attention. On the one hand, due to the huge camera module, which protrudes clearly from the housing. On the other hand, thanks to the imitation leather surface, which is also used in many cameras. The frame is made of aluminum and there is nothing wrong with the workmanship.
- Furnishing: The 6.7-inch display has a maximum resolution of 3200×1440 pixels, the refresh rate is dynamic between one and 120 Hertz. The automatic adjustment works perfectly, resulting in a good mix of smooth display and energy efficiency. Another plus point is the brightness. This means the display is still easy to read even in direct sunlight.
- Camera: The main camera is clearly the highlight of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. The Chinese have been cooperating with Leica since 2012, and the current device was also created in collaboration with the German camera manufacturer. The 50-megapixel sensor comes from Sony, plus an ultra-wide-angle camera and two telephoto lenses, each also 50 megapixels. The system is rounded off with an optical image stabilizer. The result is images that can be seen both day and night. Photos that appear very natural are created in daylight. The colors, contrast and sharpness of the photos are also pleasing. The five-fold zoom is also impressive; the photos are still displayed in great detail. Thanks to the LYT900 sensor, you can also take great night photos that impress with excellent sharpness and detail. As a special extra, Xiaomi has come up with a photography kit that can optionally be purchased with the smartphone – and costs another 200 euros. The set includes a protective cover, two decorative rings for the camera module and a camera handle with a built-in additional battery.
