Not always the most advanced cell phone of each brand is the public’s favorite and many may end up preferring the simplest of the top of the line models. With that in mind, we prepared this comparison between the Xiaomi 13 and the Galaxy S23. What stands out in cost-effectiveness with a complete cell phone at a fair price? That’s what we’re going to find out.

Xiaomi 13
Samsung Galaxy S23
We started with the design and by placing each device side by side you will see that the Galaxy S23 is the most compact and light. Both have a sturdy body made of aluminum and a glass back. The advantage for the Galaxy S23 is the latest generation of Gorilla Glass, which ensures greater resistance to impacts and scratches.
It’s good to see that Xiaomi has been adopting IP68 certification in its most advanced models, which guarantees the same resistance once morest water and dust as Samsung’s cell phones. In terms of design, we have thin edges with a small hole at the top on both. At the rear there is a large block that houses the cameras, while in the Galaxy we see a more minimalist look.
There is a biometric reader integrated into the screen on each model. The difference is that Samsung uses ultrasonic technology and Xiaomi adopts optics. Each user has their preferences, but both work well with fast unlocking and low error rate. The negative point for the Xiaomi 13 is that the sensor is closer to the edge and this can bother those with large hands.
There is no memory card or headphone jack on our Duelists. They have common sixth generation Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC and 5G. Xiaomi stands out for having infrared that allows you to use your cell phone as a remote control. There is wireless charging in both, but it is more agile in the Chinese model.
As each has its advantages, we start with one point for each.

For fans of movies and series, the Xiaomi 13 will end up winning over with its larger 6.36-inch screen once morest just 6.1 inches from the rival. In addition, it supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, which makes it more complete to get the most out of streaming services.
In maximum brightness it is the Xiaomi 13 that takes advantage, despite the difference being small. In terms of viewing angle, contrast and sharpness, we can declare a draw. In color calibration it is the Galaxy that is ahead by displaying images closer to the ideal by default. However, on Xiaomi 13 it is possible to change the calibration profile to have better colors.
Thus, we give victory to the Xiaomi 13 in screen.

As
There’s stereo sound on both models in our duel. Both Xiaomi and Samsung decided to go with the usual implementation of using the call speaker as a secondary channel. However, the sound power is superior in the Chinese model, as well as it manages to reproduce more bass than the Korean rival.
There’s a full equalizer on both with Dolby Atmos support. You can choose from native profiles that optimize audio for each type of use, such as movies, music or speech. It is also possible to change the sound frequencies to change the highs, mids and lows. None have a headphone jack, so you’ll have to use a Bluetooth model.
We will give the Xiaomi 13 victory in sound.

Software
The Galaxy S23 comes with Android 13 modified by One UI. The Xiaomi 13 also features the same version of the factory robot with the MIUI interface running on top. Samsung stands out for providing superior support by securing four Android updates and five years of security updates.
In terms of functionality, we have two devices that are quite full of features. As much as Xiaomi’s interface delivers good performance, it struggles to handle many apps at the same time. One UI is better optimized and brings cool extras like DeX that turns your phone into a PC when you connect it to a TV or monitor.
Samsung takes the software win.

Performance
The two duelists in our comparison come equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The difference is that the Galaxy S23 has a turbocharged version that comes with a faster processor. Does this guarantee superior performance? It depends.
In our multitasking focused speed test we really saw the S23 leave the rival in the dust, but part of the blame lies with MIUI’s lack of optimization. In benchmarks it is the Xiaomi 13 that comes out on top in almost all tests. And in games? Both ran all the titles we tested at maximum graphics quality and without heating up.
We will give each one a point.

Battery
Because it is bigger, we have a more generous battery in the Xiaomi 13: it is 4,500 mAh once morest just 3,900 mAh in the rival. And as expected, the Chinese model is the one that delivers the best autonomy and managed to yield 6 hours more of moderate use in our test with some games included.
Xiaomi sends a more powerful charger with 67W once morest just 25W in the Galaxy. With that, even if the battery is bigger in the Chinese cell phone, it ends up recharging considerably faster. With just 15 minutes in the socket, you’ll already have half the battery to use. The Galaxy reaches 30% charge in this same time.
Victory for the Xiaomi 13.

The photographic set is similar. We have 50 MP main camera, 12 MP ultra-wide and 10 MP telephoto camera. The difference is that this last camera comes with 3.2x optical zoom on Xiaomi, once morest 3x on Galaxy. In addition, the Chinese model sports LEICA brand lenses with the promise of professional quality photos.
Does this advanced lens really make a difference? At least in terms of software we have two calibration modes by LEICA. The one that is active by default tends towards more saturated colors, but there is a secondary one for those who prefer photos closer to reality. It is a more practical means than using the manual mode on the Galaxy line.
As many just want a point and shoot phone, the S23 will be the best option. By default, it captures the sharpest images with the widest dynamic range and best HDR. The Galaxy also records cleaner photos at night, despite Xiaomi’s night mode delivering good results.
In macros, blur and zoom we can say that the two are very close. It’s a shame that none feature ultra-wide autofocus to give you more flexibility when shooting close up.
Anyway, point to the Galaxy.

On the front, we have an advantage over the Xiaomi 13 in terms of resolution. The selfie camera comes with a 32 MP sensor once morest just 12 MP in the Korean rival. Don’t be fooled by the higher resolution, as the Xiaomi 13’s sensor compresses it to an 8 MP file and then upscales it to return to the original 32 MP, which ends up compromising sharpness.
Galaxy’s front camera makes selfies clearer and with better skin tone. The S23 also excels at nighttime selfies, although the portrait mode ends up blurring the entire photo at times.
Point for the Galaxy in selfies.

Both manage to shoot in 8K with the difference that the Galaxy reaches 30 fps, which guarantees smoother videos than the rival at 24 fps. On the front we also have an advantage for the S23 for shooting in 4K and the Xiaomi 13 being limited to just Full HD. Both capture videos with good quality, do not suffer from shakes and have agile focus. The Korean top also excels at capturing the cleanest sound.
One more point for the S23 in camera.

The Galaxy S23 was launched in Brazil in February 2023 for R$5,999. It can currently be found for less than R$ 4 thousand, which makes its price more interesting than the R$ 4.5 thousand on average charged by the Xiaomi 13 in national retail. Of course, you can venture to import the device to try to pay less, but the difference between the two will be small.
With that, we end the comparison with the last point for S23.

The Xiaomi 13 stands out for its more complete connectivity, screen with advanced technologies, more powerful sound, superior performance in benchmarks and greater battery life with shorter recharge time.
The Galaxy S23 wins in a more compact body with a minimalist design, better support for software updates, superior performance in multitasking, better photographic experience and more affordable price in the domestic market. With that, he is our champion in this comparison.
