Xiaomi today introduced its most advanced smartphone worldwide, the Xiaomi 13 Ultraa team with which it goes out to fight the giants of the sector and, incidentally, keep moving, trying to recover some lost ground as the third largest manufacturer of smartphones in the world, and move away from Oppo and Vivo, its staunch followers (the company had 11% of shipments in the first quarter of the year, two points less than a year ago, according to Canalyswhile Oppo climbs to 10%).

But beyond sales, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra represents, like the 12S Ultra that it showed last July, the company’s ambitions and a demonstration of its technical capacity: the phone has everything, including very innovative elements.

The Xiaomi 13 Ultra has a 5000 mAh battery and a “hibernation” mode that offers one hour of autonomy with 1% battery

The distinctive element of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra is in the camera block (in fact, the company says that the 13 Ultra is not a phone with a camera, but a camera with a phone): it has four of them (the usual thing is to have three; some phones, like Samsung’s Ultra, use five), including a normal 1-inch sensor and 50 megapixel resolution, which also has dual aperture (f/1.9 and F/4.0; Samsung and Sony have tested this technique as well), allowing you to play with depth of field and background blur in a way that takes advantage of optics and doesn’t rely as heavily on digital blurring.

To this he added a wide angle and two telephoto lenses, 3.2x and 5x (all 50 megapixels); according to the company, this allows it to cover a focal length range from 12 to 240mm. The company also sells an accessory that wraps the phone in a camera mount and adds a 67mm lens to the glass on the phone’s cameras. According to Leica, the glass elements of each sensor (the lenses of the four cameras) were designed by the company.

The camera, in addition to integrating multiple Leica filters and color settingshas a “snapshot” mode that allows you to have the phone ready to take photos in less than a second.

The other element that stands out from the competition is in the screen, with a 6.7-inch OLED panel, resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, refresh rate of 120 Hz and a brightness of 2600 nits, the highest on the market. It is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

To that is added a chip Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, 12 or 16 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of storage (with the UFS 4.0 standard, which reduces data reading and writing time), and a 5000 mAh battery, with 90 watt fast charge (the company includes the charger in the box) and wireless charging of 50 watts. According to Xiaomi, the inclusion of its own design chips to manage energy consumption allows it to achieve an hour of autonomy even if we have 1 percent battery left (the “hibernate” mode).

The phone also a new liquid cooling system which, according to the company, allows you to run the processor several degrees cooler than the competition (preventing overheating if in heavy use) and is made with a metal chassis and a back cover made of a synthetic material resembling leather used by classic professional cameras. It runs EMUI 14 on Android 13.

According to the company, it will be available in the coming months for a price of between $850 and $1,050, although the final amount will depend on each country. The expectation is that it will arrive in Europe next June.
