The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the State Council held a reception for the 2024 Spring Festival at the Great Hall of the People on the morning of Monday. Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, state president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, delivered a speech, extending greetings to the Chinese people of all ethnic groups, compatriots from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Macao Special Administrative Region and Taiwan, and overseas Chinese for the Spring Festival on behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council.
Xi Jinping stressed that the outgoing Year of the Rabbit marked the beginning of the full implementation of the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress on all fronts. Facing an extremely complex international environment and arduous tasks of reform, development and maintaining stability, we have joined forces for Chinese-style modernization, taking into account domestic and international imperatives, worked tenaciously and courageously to overcome multiple difficulties and challenges, and taken solid steps in the new journey toward building China into a modern socialist country in all respects.

Xi Jinping pointed out in his speech that over the past year, we have comprehensively implemented the new development concept, adhered to the general principle of seeking progress while maintaining stability, and resolutely implemented the stage-shifting of COVID-19 prevention and control measures to promote economic recovery and development. As a result, the economic volume has exceeded 126 trillion yuan, while total grain output has hit a record high, and employment and prices have remained generally stable. Reform and opening-up have continued to deepen, and a new round of reform of Party and state institutions has been broadly completed. The ecological environment continues to improve. The modernization of national defense and the military has taken new steps. The Chengdu University Games and the Hangzhou Asian Games were held successfully, with our athletes achieving good results. We have furthered the Party’s comprehensive and strict discipline and the fight once morest corruption, and have continuously fostered a sound political environment. We have upheld the people’s supremacy and focused on ensuring and improving the people’s livelihood, continuously consolidated and expanded the achievements of tackling poverty alleviation, wholeheartedly addressed the urgent, difficult and disturbing problems that the people long for and have sought to solve, made all-out efforts to respond to natural disasters and made every effort to promote recovery and reconstruction, all of which have contributed to maintaining the stability of the overall situation of society. We actively support better integration of Hong Kong and Macao into the overall national development picture, firmly combat secessionist activities in favor of “Taiwan independence” and interference by external forces, and firmly safeguard the country’s sovereignty, security and development interests. Xi Jinping pointed out that 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of New China and is a crucial year for achieving the goals and tasks of the 14th Five-Year Plan.
