The Chinese leader pointed out the great responsibility that both countries have for world peace.
The people of the United States and China have built a shared history and a “deep” friendship, Chinese President Xi Jinping said in a letter responding to two American veterans of the Flying Tiger Army, who fought by China during World War II. The politician affirmed that the two States must respect each other and seek fruitful cooperation.
He recalled that both nations fought in the past against a common enemy: Japan. “Looking to the future, China and the US, as two great countries, have an even more important responsibility for world peace, stability and development“Xi wrote.
The US and China “can and should pursue mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation,” he said.
In recent months, several meetings have been held between officials from both countries to reduce tensions in the relationship. In June, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited China, and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen visited China in July. Also in July, US special climate envoy John Kerry visited Beijing.
“The world needs a stable and healthy relationship between China and the United States,†Chinese Vice President Han Zheng recently declared.
