Xi Jinping ‘Bok Shim’ Li Chang appointed as Prime Minister

On the 11th, Li Chang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), who is called the ‘trust’ of Chinese President Xi Jinping, was elected Prime Minister of the State Council, the head of the Chinese government.

Li Chang, who became China’s eighth prime minister, will lead China’s executive branch, the State Council, for at least five years, and for 10 years if he is reappointed.

Former Premier Li Keqiang ended his 10-year term on this day.

Prime Minister Li, a native of Zhejiang Province, served as chief secretary to President Xi when he served as secretary of the Zhejiang Province Provincial Department from 2002 to 2007.

Afterwards, he served as governor of Zhejiang Province and secretary of the Shanghai City Party, and in October of last year, at the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, he entered the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee, the party’s top leadership.

Prime Minister Li Chang is regarded as a key aide to President Xi and an economic expert.

Prime Minister Li is scheduled to reveal the direction of state affairs at a press conference held immediately following the closing ceremony of the National People’s Congress on the 13th.
