With XDefiant, Ubisoft is known to have a new free-to-play shooter in the works. This is now going into the next test phase, with the focus on the cross-play functionality of the game.
Ubisoft San Francisco has announced fresh details on another insider testing phase of its upcoming free-to-play shooter, XDefiant. The title was originally intended to be part of the Tom Clancy series but eventually dropped the branding to match. Previously, following a closed test phase in 2021, the title had become quiet for the time being.
That’s changing now, because apparently things are going better with the XDefiant, which has been detached from Tom Clancy. The arena shooter, which will later be playable free of charge and which should offer playful bonds from Blizzard’s successful title Overwatch and playable factions from The Division, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint and Splinter Cell, will now be able to be tested once more by selected players.
A new insider session is to be held from February 16 to 20, 2023; the selected gamers will be able to try out the planned cross-play functionality. Escort, Zone Control, Domination and Occupy modes will be playable in online matches. The title now borrows from other popular Ubisoft franchises following the Tom Clancy branding has been dropped, as the session announcement also mentions a new map called Pueblito, set on Far Cry 6’s tropical island of Yara.
With the focus on cross-play, the playtest will be open to players across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms alike. However, due to an NDA, those who are there are not allowed to talk regarding the test phase and publish screenshots, videos or other content. The shooter does not have a release date.
