An easier way to control your energy costs? Xcel Energy launching its new smart meters in Fargo.
These smart meters give their customers real time data regarding their electricity efficiency and usage.
Installation work started this week for the multiyear project.
The meters take as little as 15 minutes to install, and at no cost to the customer. They’ll be installed in homes and businesses.
Using these smart meters and the Xcel My Account app, people will be able to track what is using energy in real time, and be more efficient with energy use. Shawn Paschke, Key Account Manager for Xcel Energy, said, “Help Customers actually understand how they’re utilizing energy coming into their homes.”
Paschke also said, “If somebody gets a more energy efficient furnace or something like that, electric furnace, they can definitely see that usage savings.”
Xcel Energy plans to install new smart meters for 100,000 North Dakota customers in 2024 and 2025.
