With the arrival of well-known brands in the portable console market (read ASUS with the ROG Ally and Lenovo with the Legion Go) to compete with the Steam Deck, Microsoft began working to bring a better user experience on these devices. , which have a smaller screen than usual on PCs.
In one of the most recent examples of this work, we have confirmation from the Redmond giant of the arrival of compact mode for the Xbox application, thus reducing the screen clutter with unnecessary information and small letters.
This update is now officially available to all users, at least in theory, and basically “reduces” the left side menu responsible for profile options, Game Pass, My Library, Cloud Gaming, Store, Notifications and Show queue, replacing it only with icons related.
It is also worth noting that, in compact mode, we have the suppression of the “Most recent” area, something that even makes sense considering that it would be complicated to keep the relevant information in a compact bar like the one proposed in the update, as can be seen in the prints below
Activating the option itself is simple, basically requiring you to open the Xbox application and then click on the user’s photo, with subsequent selection of the “compact mode” option so that the reduction is applied immediately.
Obviously, deactivating compact mode follows the same step by step mentioned above.
In addition to compact mode, Microsoft also confirmed the availability of changes to notifications and banners (image above) to make it easier to follow news and a new game service repair tool, available within the application’s support area.
Notifications and banners
With new games and benefits coming to Game Pass all the time, we’ve made it easier to keep up with what’s new by giving you the option to only show unread notifications in the notifications drop-down menu in the Xbox app on PC.
Additional improvements
We heard you want a more streamlined experience when diagnosing and troubleshooting problems, so we added the new game services repair tool, a dedicated tool to fix any issues with game services or missing content when launching the Xbox app on PC. To use this feature, click on your profile in the top left corner of the app and select “Support”.
