Now that Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard King has closed, Xbox boss Phil Spencer has started meeting with his new teams. After visiting King employees in Stockholm and London, Xbox management then continued their journey to Irvine, California, where Blizzard’s headquarters are located.

Blizzard’s dreams might come true

The interest for Xbox management is of course to understand the needs of Blizzard teams, but also to become aware of their desires. We learn through Windows Central that Microsoft wants to do what is necessary to be considered a “trusted source for Blizzard”. The Redmond firm even wishes to give the publisher the means to realize “its visions and dreams”.

Spencer said Microsoft strives to be a trusted source for Blizzard, and wants to enable Blizzard to realize its visions and dreams

These comments go exactly in the same direction as another recent speech in which the boss of Xbox said he was ready to bring back old licenses on the condition of having motivated teams to work on the projects in question.

This vision is part of the continuity of the autonomy left to the previous acquired studios. Let us hope, however, that these are not simple marketing words to reassure players and that this direction lets the imagination of the developers express themselves, without Microsoft not tightening the screw when necessary.

You will have to be very patient to see the first results of this acquisition. Hopefully Odyssey, the next survival game developed by Blizzard, will demonstrate this commitment made by Phil Spencer.
