The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S were released on November 10, 2020 and the consoles will therefore celebrate their two-year lifespan at the end of the year. A few days ago, journalist Brad Sams published a video on his YouTube channel in which he mentioned the arrival of a new chip dedicated to the Xbox Series X.
Towards a more efficient chip for the Xbox Series X
When asked if it is true that Microsoft is currently working on a revision of the chip that powers the Xbox Series X, he replies:
I believe this to be true…I know that Microsoft was working on revisions to the chip

Now are we going to see performance improvements, are we going to see anything else? I don’t think so, but Microsoft is still working on making cooler and more efficient chips because it lowers production costs
A slim model or a boosted version in the viewfinder?
For the moment, if the rumors of the arrival of a new chip are confirmed, everything suggests that it will be used for an overhaul of the current Xbox Series X, as is usually the case throughout the life of a console.
Nevertheless, if a machine is usually made to last 7 years, we saw on the previous generation the arrival of “mid-gen” consoles boosted, the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X being released respectively three and a half and four years following the PS4 and Xbox One. Could this new chip be used for a slim model, or a boosted model of the Xbox Series X?
In 2023, the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S will blow out their third candle, so it’s not totally unrealistic to start asking the question.
