Microsoft has been refusing to give sales figures for its consoles for several years. But today, we finally know the sales figures for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.

Hide these numbers that I can’t see

As we explained a few weeks ago, 2022 has been a banner year for Sony in terms of revenue generated. The figures showed that compared to the PS4 era and comparable periods, PlayStation gamers are spending more money on PS5 accessories (+60%), subscriptions (+52%) and add-ons (+ 210%), which offsets the slight drop recorded in the purchase of games (-10%). Last February, the Japanese group announced that it had distributed 32.1 million PlayStation 5s worldwide.

For its part, Microsoft has long refused to give the sales figures for its consoles.. As a reminder, from April 2014, sales of the Xbox One fell and the PlayStation 4 took off. In 2015, when the Xbox One was well ahead of the PlayStation 4 in terms of global sales, the American giant decided to no longer communicate the sales figures of its consoles in its quarterly and annual reports. That’s when the brand decided to bet everything on the number of monthly active users (MAU), that is, the total number of unique accounts that have played games or used Xbox services during of the last month. But today, we finally have some valuable data regarding Xbox consoles answered.

Finally from the new Xbox side

We were beginning to despair of the absence of official figures. We finally have some. During an ID@Xbox presentation in Brazil, some slides deliver particularly interesting details.

According to photos of the event circulating on the net, reproduced by Tom Warren of The Verge, more than 21 million Xbox Series X|S have been sold. Combining Xbox One sales, that would total over 79 million. A quick subtraction therefore allows us to know that the worldwide sales of Xbox One would amount to 58 million. For information, the PlayStation 4 has sold 117 million copies worldwide. We have reached out to Microsoft to request comment on this information. We will update this article if the manufacturer agrees to answer us.
