Xbox told long-awaited news regarding changes in your business. Head of Gaming Division Microsoft Phil Spencer discussed new solutions.

В Xbox continues working to expand the community, so four games available on Microsoft consoles and PC will be released on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. These are games that have been available exclusively for the Xbox ecosystem for at least a year. We’re not talking regarding Starfield or the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, but regarding other projects, but Spencer does not exclude the appearance of these games on PS5.

More details will be shared soon, but the ports will include “hidden gems” and service games that will benefit from increased player numbers. How report According to The Verge, the ported games will include Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment, followed by Sea of Thieves and Grounded. In addition, Microsoft discussed the multiplatform nature of the next Doom part.

If the idea of porting games is successful, then Xbox will not limit itself to just four exclusives. The company wants to know what it’s like to release games directly on PC through Steam and the Microsoft Store, on its own consoles, as well as on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. In addition, this will test the “appetite” of users of competitive platforms.

Xbox will also honor its commitments to its successful deal with Activision Blizzard. Because of this, Diablo IV will appear on Game Pass on March 28th. The subscription itself has 34 million users and will remain exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem. All major releases will be added to its library on release day.

The decision to move its games to competitors’ platforms in Xbox is associated with the fact that attracting new audiences will ensure the long-term success of the platform. The proceeds will be used to invest in continuations of well-known series, or to create new major games. Phil Spencer believes gaming should remain a strong part of Xbox, citing the incredibly successful release of Palworld in January as an example.

Xbox consoles are not going anywhere: the company has a multi-year and innovative roadmap for the development of hardware. Players can expect new offerings on consoles and controllers this year, but for now Spencer has “nothing to announce” regarding handheld devices. Xbox promises to continue to support important features such as backwards compatibility, cross-platform saves, cross-play and cloud technologies. At the same time, future hardware innovations will have some unique properties in which the developers showed their “creativity.”

This year, Xbox promises to please its users with a large number of content. These will be Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Avowed, Ara: History Untold, Towerborne and much more. Popular franchises owned by Microsoft are receiving updates: Minecraft, Call of Duty, Forza, Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) and The Elder Scrolls Online.

That being said, Game Pass is not a top priority for Xbox. The company will be equally happy both for those who want to try out a new game on release day through a subscription, and for those who replenish their own library with digital releases.

Conversation with Phil Spencer

Phil Spencer was also asked regarding Microsoft’s plans to open its own mobile store. Work in this direction is underway, but for now it is necessary to sort out the legal aspects of opening a store on Android and iPhone. The company will be able to attract interest in the store thanks to Minecraft, Diablo Immortal, Candy Crush, Call of Duty Mobile and other games owned by Microsoft.

Separately, Spencer noted Microsoft’s attitude towards its gaming business. Xbox became the company’s third-largest business and first among consumer businesses. Phil himself is very excited regarding the opportunities ahead for the gaming division. New games and studios, cloud technologies, hardware plans and revenue growth from the PC and cloud markets make for an “exciting time” for Xbox.
