It’s no longer really a secret, and unless you live in a cave, you now know that the world of Tech has been affected by major shortages of semiconductors since the Covid-19 pandemic. And the Ukrainian conflict has not helped the situation. This greatly disrupts the supply chains and productions of most next-gen consoles. Thus, the PS5 and Xbox Series X are particularly impacted and have great difficulty in meeting demand.
Luckily, the Xbox Series S escapes this shortage thanks to different components. Microsoft’s latest machine is often available for sale, whether at online retailers or in major brick-and-mortar stores. After reigning over Black Friday, the Series S continues to sell out and be a great success despite a fairly laborious launch.
Xbox, leader ahead of Sony and the PS5?
It is therefore a statement by the CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella, which has ignited the web in recent hours. During a recent investor update, Nadella said: “with our Xbox Series X and S consoles, we have taken global share for two consecutive quarters” before continuing and stating that: “We are the market leader for next-gen consoles in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Western Europe this quarter”.
Thus, for the first quarter of 2022, Xbox would be ahead of PlayStation and the Xbox Series X/S would sell more than the PlayStation 5 and PS5 Digital Edition. Unfortunately, as far too often on Microsoft’s side, no figures support its statements.
In January and March 2022, Xbox sales in these different territories were higher than PS5 sales which fail to meet demand with slow production lines. Microsoft confirms that its revenue related to the video game sector increased by 6% at the start of 2022, reaching the sum of 3.74 billion dollars.
The Redmond company announces that subscriptions to online services (Xbox Game Pass) have also increased by 4% and that there are now more than 10 million players who benefit from Cloud Gaming. Record and historical figures for Xbox, and everything seems to indicate that it is not ready to stop.
