Microsoft is very committed to inclusiveness and has rolled out several initiatives in recent years to ensure that everyone can be represented and feel considered on the platform. It is on the occasion of Pride Month that the brand announces a partnership and offers a free game throughout the month of June.
Xbox partners with GLAAD to bring visibility to LGBTQIA+
pav bhardwaj, Chief of Staff for Xbox Marketing and co-head of the Xbox LGBTQIA+ team says his team is driven by a desire to make gaming a place where everyone feels welcome to play.
One of the ways we can help members of the LGBTQIA+ communities is to increase their visibility and representation in video games. Representation is a big, multi-faceted topic: it might be more LGBTQIA+ characters, more moments featuring LGBTQIA+ themes, or even creating worlds in which female players and LGBTQIA+ players feel comfortable. For us, it’s regarding empowering our LGBTQIA+ team members to create the changes they hope to see in our games and in the industry at large.
The gaming branch of Microsoft announces that it has entered into a long-term partnership with GLAAD in order to increase representation in Xbox games. GLAAD defines itself as the world’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) rights organization by strengthening media accountability and community engagement for authentic LGBTQ stories to be seen, heard and put into practice.
“Through this partnership, we hope to bring more LGBTQIA+ stories, characters, and experiences to Xbox games, so they resonate with gamers around the world.”the statement said.
Xbox cites data from the Trevor Project which says that up to two in three LGBTQIA+ youth said this year that escalating transphobic and homophobic rhetoric had negative effects on their mental well-being.
The Tell me Why game is available once more
