Enclave offered slick hack ‘n’ slash action on the first Xbox in 2002 and on PC regarding a year later. As of today, the classic can be played as an HD version for around 20 euros on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch.
Enclave, the of Starbreeze (including Chronicles of Riddick, Payday 2) sends players into a battle between light and darkness in a medieval-inspired fantasy world. A special feature is a slight touch of role-playing elements: Before each mission of the two campaigns for heroes and villains, one of six characters with different skills and equipment can be chosen.
A knight gets a sword and shield, the magician gets wands of different powers. Which weapons and tools are available during a mission depends on the number of gold coins collected in levels. These are more of a kind of overall budget that is permanently maintained and is equally available to all characters. It can therefore be redistributed as desired before each mission. This creates possibilities for variation when optimizing or the type of procedure: For a mission, a knight can be equipped with a strong sword and weak shield or vice versa. A balanced approach is also possible; gold can also be reserved for healing potions and other aids. A bad character composition can also affect the difficulty level.
Always playable on PC
In the HD version, publisher Ziggurat Interactive advertises improved graphics, prettier effects and a revised soundtrack. Achievements have also been upgraded. On the PC, however, an improved version is less urgently needed. The title has been available for purchase through Steam and GOG for years; Optimizations keeps the PC Gaming Wiki ready. On the PC, Enclave is also offered at a much lower price: The regular price is 5 instead of 20 euros and is reduced once more by 50 percent in the current summer sale. Predominantly positive ratings reveal that the classic is still an entertaining game today, which not only lived from its formerly pretty graphics.
