Xbox boss Phil Spencer admits they released some games ‘too soon’

Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, has reaffirmed the decision to to delay Starfield y Redfall de Bethesda a 2023at the same time that admits that on some occasions they released titles “too soon”. Although Spencer has avoided naming names, the statement seems to refer to Halo Infinitewhich was criticized in its debut by the absence of some options.

Speaking on the podcast Decoder Spencer says that the game would not offer the quality promised by reaching the date that had been announced: “We have experience in launching games early”. In the talk he also gave some details of the keystone prototype -a console exclusively for streaming– or the importance of mobile game market.

“In the end, I think the quality of the games will be better and consumers will find the experience more interesting, and hopefully in retrospect it will be the right decision. One of the things I’ve learned is that you want the teams to own the dates [de lanzamiento]. They work best when they control their destiny with the games, so you wait for the final signal from the creative and production teams.”

Starfield y Redfall These are two of Xbox’s biggest releases for 2023, and Spencer wants teams to feel the company’s support.”the benefits of being part of a large organization that has other sources of profit”.

A decision made to give the quality that is expected from the games

Last May, the manager explained with the announcement that “these decisions are difficult for the teams that make the games and for our fans. Although I fully support giving teams time to launch these great games when they are ready, we listen to the comments. Quality and consistency are expected, and we will continue to work to meet those expectations.“.
