Xavi makes his position on the case clear

A new controversy comes to light in the FC Barcelona. The relationship with Frenkie De Jong is not being the best and the club would have threatened the player with a letter to invalidate his contract.

It is even assured that they might take it to court, publishes The Athletic. An action, which, according to the same media, Evgeni Levchenko, president of the players’ union in the Netherlands, might be considered “extortion” and is being monitored by the world players’ union, FIFPRO.

What Barcelona wanted with this was to annul Frenkie’s contract, who signed a new link with the culé squad on October 20, 2020.

In that role, De Jong extended until 2026 with Barcelona in exchange for lowering his salary in the 20-21 and 21-22 campaigns. An agreement similar to the one that Ter Stegen, Piqué and Lenglet agreed to.

The current directive led by Joan Laporta considers that these terms are illegal and they sent a letter threatening De Jong with taking him to court if he did not change the pact.

The player’s lawyers, for their part, do not hide their discomfort at the attitude of the Laporta board. They consider themselves extraordinarily pressured to leave the club to the destination that Barcelona decides and they demand their right to stay at Barça, which is Frenkie’s favorite option, and if they leave, they will be the ones who decide the destination.

Xavi makes his position on the case clear

The Barcelona coach, Xavi Hernández, made it clear that he has Frenkie de Jong, although he acknowledged that he does not know “what will happen until August 31”

“I don’t know what will happen to Frenkie de Jong. Until August 31, anything can happen. He knows what I think and that he wants and needs the club. Of course I am counting on him, he is a great player”, Xavi pointed out.
