Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez spoke in an angry tone regarding the performance of his players despite the Blaugrana’s 3-2 win over its Alex Reed Almeria, this Wednesday evening, in the 18th round of La Liga.
During his statements to reporters following the match, Xavi said: “The performance was not acceptable in the first half, and I told you that. There was no pressure on the opponent, and the spirit and combativeness was absent.”
He added: “We are not the Barcelona of 2010. However, we were more enthusiastic and combative last year and we had the spirit required for victory. We must fight, otherwise we will not gain anything. If we are not successful at the level of the ball, we must play with spirit. I do not blame an individual player. This was the case in general. In the second half we were better and appeared as required. Yes, we shot 30 balls and created two or three scoring chances, but we have to deal like monsters on the field.”

He continued regarding tonight’s star: “I am pleased with the brilliance of Sergi Roberto, because he is a role model player whether he plays or not, and he almost scored a hat-trick, and I am happy for him. I think Gundogan feels comfortable in his current position, and the positive remarks were the brilliance of the young men Oriol and Iñaki Peña.”
Xavi concluded: “I am not angry now. I complained regarding my team’s lack of morale. I must expect more from the players and covet more, but I must also protect them.”
It is noteworthy that this is the second match in a row following which Xavi came out to criticize his players in front of the media, as he did following the draw once morest Antwerp of Belgium in the final round of the group stage of the Champions League, last week.
