Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez denied the reports circulating regarding the possibility of his dismissal from coaching the Catalan team.
Barcelona had announced the renewal of Xavi’s contract last September, but the team’s decline in performance and results raised strong doubts regarding his continuation as coach of the Blaugrana squad.
Media reports stated hours ago that Xavi “feels lonely” in Barcelona, in light of his lack of support from the club’s management.

Xavi said in the press conference before facing Porto in the fifth round of the group stage of the Champions League: “I am the person who has the most confidence in the team. What is happening now reminds me of what I experienced as a player.”
He added: “I do not feel alone because I have the trust of President Joan Laporta and Deco (the sporting director). I have a work team that believes in me and my abilities, along with some players who are trying.”
He continued: “I can feel the administration’s confidence. If this is not announced, I will be the first to say.”
Regarding Laporta’s visit to the reserve team and its coach Rafa Marquez, the candidate to succeed Xavi, the Barca coach said: “It is a sign of unity. He (Laporta) always does this and has pictures with us in the dressing room as well, and I do not see any problem.”
He continued: “Last year, things were not going well, and in the end it ended well. For all these reasons, I think things will go well.”
He added: “We lost a lot of things this season and got fewer points in the league compared to last year, but we are better in the Champions League. We have to do more in the league.”
He continued: “The same team last year played well in the difficult matches. Tomorrow we can qualify for the round of 16 in the Champions League. It is a final match and we cannot fail.”
He continued: “We have a lot at stake and the fans must know that and encourage us as they always do. I criticize the players strongly because we have to demand a lot of ourselves. We are not at the level we were at a month and a half or two months ago and we have to push harder.”
He added: “We are the team in Spain that produces the most scoring chances, but it is important that we advance on the scoreboard, and if we do not do that, we will not feel very comfortable.”
Regarding the position of main goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Xavi commented: “He was only able to train with difficulty, and tomorrow he will be tested to see if he is 100% ready.”
