The Chinese manufacturer is entering the high-end segment with its Vivo X Fold and X Note. Two alternatives to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy S22 Ultra.
the foldable smartphone market is now dominated by Samsung. A time left alone in this market segment, the South Korean firm has seen the appearance of foldable models among its competitors in recent months. Recently, Oppo unveiled its Find N and now it’s Vivo’s turn to join the dance.
The manufacturer has just launched its X Fold from China. If most foldable smartphones are generally less well equipped than more classic smartphones, for this new model it is not so. Emphasis has been placed on several key elements including the screen and the camera. The Vivo X Fold features a 6.53-inch 120Hz FHD+ AMOLED display on the outside. Inside, it benefits from an 8.03-inch (2200 x 1800 pixel) 120 Hz AMOLED screen. Under each of these two slabs, Vivo has placed a fingerprint reader.
In terms of photography, it features a 50 Mpx Samsung GN5 main sensor with OIS (f / 1.8), a 48 Mpx ultra-wide-angle (f / 2.2), a 12 Mpx telephoto zoom x2 (f / 2.4), as well as an 8 Mpx periscope zooming x5 (x60 in digital). The module was designed in partnership with Zeiss.
The Vivo X Fold is also powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, coupled with 12 GB of RAM. In terms of storage, two options are offered: 256 and 512 GB. Autonomy is supported by a 4600 mAh battery compatible with 66 W fast charging, 50 W wireless and 10 W reverse.
The Vivo X Fold runs Android 12 through OriginOS. It is currently marketed only in China at a price equivalent to 1300 euros.
Vivo X Note: XL screen and advanced camera
This model is entering alongside the Vivo X Fold. The manufacturer has designed it to facilitate multitasking and productivity, as Samsung was able to do with its series of Galaxy Note. The Vivo X Note is thus equipped with a 7-inch QHD + AMOLED screen (3080 x 1440 pixels). It is equipped with a large fingerprint reader capable of simultaneously taking two different fingerprints for enhanced security.
Like the foldable, it embeds a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, supported by 8 to 12 GB of RAM. On the storage side, we are dealing with 256 or 512 GB. As for the photo, the terminal is equipped with a 50 Mpx Isocell GN1 main sensor with a size of 1/1.3 inch. It has a wide aperture lens for photos taken in low light (f/1.57). This module is completed by a periscope zooming x5 in optical and x60 in digital (f / 3.4), a telephoto lens of 12 Mpx zooming x2 (IMX663) (f / 2.0), as well as an ultra wide-angle of 48 Mpx.
The Vivo X Note is finally powered by a 5000 mAh battery supporting 80 W fast charging and 50 W wireless charging.
It is offered in China in blue, black and gray, with leather upholstery, from the equivalent of 940 euros.
For now, Vivo has not yet specified when these two models will be launched internationally.
