The “X” platform (formerly Twitter), owned by businessman Elon Musk, has expanded user data collection operations to include biometric information.

The type of information being collected, and the manner in which the platform intends to use it, is of interest to technology watchers.

The company recently added to its online privacy policy, “We may use the information we collect … to help train machine learning models or artificial intelligence models for the purpose specified in this policy.”

But the purposes indicated by the company are not clear, and its definition of biometric data remains incomplete with regard to the exact details, compared, for example, to the definition of the US Department of Homeland Security, which confirms that biometric characteristics are “distinguished physical characteristics such as fingerprints, which can be used for automatic identification.”

X intends to record information regarding the level of education of its users and their work history. That data will be used, according to the company, in order to make job recommendations.

The change in the methods of collecting information on the platform will begin at the end of September.
