WWE decides the main event of Bad Blood

WWE has been promoting the match between Drew McIntyre and CM Punk at Bad Blood in recent weeks, presenting it as a significant conclusion to the Hell in a Cell structure. Although many expected it to be the main event of the show, it appears that WWE has different plans.

Sean Ross Sapp, a journalist for Fightful, has reported on his paid Patreon channel that the company has decided that the match between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns against The Bloodline will serve as the main event of Bad Blood. This decision was made this week following the success of the promo recording between Rhodes and Reigns at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

“WWE Bad Blood is just a couple of weeks away, and there has been some public confusion regarding the main event,” Sapp wrote. “Over the weekend, USA Network published an article suggesting that CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre at Hell in a Cell would be the main event of Bad Blood. This seemed logical, given the high profile of the feud and the Hell in a Cell stipulation.”

“However, once Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns filmed their promo at Georgia Tech, the internal plan for the event was to have that match against The Bloodline conclude the Premium Live Event. Cody Rhodes is from the area, and WWE has arranged for a band from the school to perform his entrance song. We have been informed that Roman Reigns’ connection to him also influenced this decision.”

WWE Bad Blood will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Fans will have the opportunity to attend the event live at the arena or stream it on Peacock in the United States and WWE Network internationally. Below is the updated card for the event so far.

WWE Bad Blood is set to be a landmark event in professional wrestling, taking place on October 5, 2024, at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. As the anticipation builds, one matchup has captured the spotlight: the showdown between Drew McIntyre and CM Punk inside the notorious Hell in a Cell structure. While this bout has been highlighted leading into the event, recent reports indicate a shift in the main event order.

Changing Landscape: The Main Event Shuffle

According to Sean Ross Sapp, a reputable wrestling journalist with Fightful, the WWE has changed its main event plans after the success of a promo filmed between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns at Georgia Tech. Initially, fans thought the high-stakes match between McIntyre and Punk would top the card due to its intense build-up. However, the internal decision now positions the tag team match of Rhodes and Reigns against The Bloodline as the headline act.

Event Highlights: Why the Change?

  • Local Connections: Cody Rhodes hails from Atlanta, making the promo and match resonate strongly with local fans.
  • Musical Elements: The inclusion of a local band to perform Rhodes’ entrance music enhances the fan experience and connection.
  • Legacy Feud: The ongoing rivalry between Rhodes, Reigns, and The Bloodline adds to the event’s emotional stakes.

As Sapp noted, “While the CM Punk and Drew McIntyre match is a major attraction, the storyline and regional ties to the Rhodes-Reigns matchup propelled it to the main event slot.” This decision is indicative of WWE’s commitment to delivering a tailored experience for its audience.
