WTA Miami: Iga Siwatek cancels injured for Masters in Florida – also Billy Jean King Cup without the Pole

A cold with a severe cough at the tournament in Doha led to the injury, Swiatek said: “I tried to keep it under control and keep playing as long as it wasn’t a risk.”

Now the doctor has advised her to take a break. “Unfortunately, I’m still very unwell, in pain and unable to compete,” she said.

“It’s almost impossible to hit a tennis ball when you’ve injured your rib,” said Eurosport expert Mats Wilander, understanding Swiatek’s decision.

“She’s the boss”: Evert intervenes in the controversy surrounding the Rybakina coach

BEFORE AN HOUR

Last week, Swiatek clearly lost in the semifinals to eventual tournament winner Jelena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) in Indian Wells. “She should have been at 100 percent to give Rybakina power from time to time. But that wasn’t possible for her. I think the rib injury explains everything,” the Swede concluded.

Swiatek might make her comeback at the WTA tournament in Stuttgart (from April 17). At the Porsche Grand Prix, she is the defending champion and number one seeded in the entry list.
