Quebec tennis player Leylah Fernandez is in 10e rank of the highest paid female athletes in the world in a ranking published by the specialized media SportyThursday.
The 2021 U.S. Open runner-up earned a total salary of $6.4 million in a 12-month period ending May 31.
Earnings affected by the 40e world player, $4.5 million comes from her contracts with her sponsors – Lululemon, Subway, Gatorade and Morgan Stanley, among others – while the remaining $1.9 million comes from her scholarships obtained on the field.
Tennis players Naomi Osaka ($53.2 million), Serena Williams ($35.3 million) and Emma Raducanu ($23 million) are the three best-paid athletes in the world according to this same ranking.
