WTA Bogotá: Tatjana Maria wins WTA tournament and makes a big leap in the world rankings

Her strong performance in Colombia (total prize money $239,477) put her among the top 120 players in the world again: she climbed 123 places and is now ranked 114th.

This makes her the third best German in the ranking after Angelique Kerber (17), Andrea Pektovic (67) and Jule Niemeier (109).

After 2:29 hours, Maria converted her second match point on Sunday. According to the WTA report, Maria is the first player to have won a tournament as a mother of two since the turn of the millennium.

In the semifinals on Saturday, Maria defeated the Russian Kamilla Rakhimova 6-2, 6-2.

She was spared the duel with the highly rated defending champion: local hero Camila Osorio, seeded in first place, surprisingly failed 5:7, 6:7 (2:7) at Pigossi immediately before Maria’s match.
