Thrissur: Chowalloor Krishnankutty, a former assistant editor of Malayala Manorama and author of devotional songs, has passed away at the age of 86. He died at Amala Medical College Hospital at 10.45 last night. He was in treatment for more than a month. Culture later.
Chowalloor wrote famous devotional songs such as ‘Vayyente Guruvayoorappa Nin Divyarupam’, ‘Guruvayoor Omanakannanamunni has a false look for some time …’ and ‘Udichuyarnnu Mamala Mele Uthram Nakshatram …..’. He has written regarding 3,000 devotional songs.
Chowalloor wrote the story, screenplay and dialogues for the early super hit film ‘Prabhathasandhya’. He also wrote screenplays for films including Sriragam, Karpuradeepam and Chaitanyam. The dialogue of the film ‘Sargam’ was written by Chowalloor. Documentaries were made on Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar, Kalamandalam Kalyanikuttyamma, Kalamandalam Ramankutty Nair, Kalamandalam Appukutty Pothuval, Keerpadam Sukumaran Nair, Kudamalur Karunakaran Nair and Champakulam Patchupillai.
He has won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Comedian, the State Government Award for Best Drama Songwriter, the Guruvayoor Thiruvenkitachalapathy Award, the Kerala Kalamandalam Mukundaraja Smriti Award, the Poonthanam Jnanappana Award and the Revathi Pattathanam Award.
He has excelled in storytelling, poetry, lyric writing, drama, screenwriting, acting, Kathakali and Thayampaka.
Prof. He started his career as a sub-editor of ‘Navajeevan’, a newspaper published by the Undivided Communist Party of Thrissur under the editorship of Joseph Mundasseri. When Malayala Manorama started its Kozhikode unit in 1966, he became a member of the editorial board. Retired in 2004. He has published more than twenty books in various categories.
He was born on July 11, 1936 in Chowalloor, Thrissur. The family traditionally owns the Kazhaka work at the Guruvayur Temple and the Chowalloor Shiva Temple.
