Wrestlers Protest Sexual Assault Allegations: Medals in the Ganges and Hunger Strike

New Delhi: Wrestlers backed away from the decision to throw their medals in the Ganges. The players withdrew their decision after farmer leader Naresh Tikayat intervened. The protesting wrestlers returned from Haridwar after Tikayat demanded five days’ time. The players have also stated that if no action is taken after five days, they will return.

Wrestlers have announced that they will throw their medals in the river Ganga in protest against wrestling federation chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over sexual assault allegations. After this, the stars reached Haridwar around 6 pm. A huge crowd gathered to support the stars.

Naresh Tikayat, who bought the medals from the wrestlers, demanded five days’ time. In a statement announcing that the medals would flow into the Ganga, the wrestlers said that instead of arresting the perpetrator, the administration was trying to intimidate the victims and end the protest.

The players also stated that they will sit on hunger strike till death in front of India Gate. The medals won for the country are their life and soul. We are draining it into the Ganges. After that there will be a fast till death in front of India Gate as there is no point in living.

Indiagate is a memorial to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country. In an emotional statement, the players say they feel the same way about representing the country in international competitions, albeit not as big.
